Fundamentally, Haven First’s work is about people – our real success is less measured by the output numbers of buildings, beds or client numbers, but rather by the lives changed and homeless people becoming independent members of society.
We have however developed some key goals that will ensure that we are maximising the impact of our work and supporting as many people as we are able, to a high standard.
Increase planned move-on of hostel clients from 80% to >90% by 2020
"Unplanned move-on" from the hostel is where a client leaves prior to being considered ready for independent living.
Increase supported second-stage accommodation available for hostel clients
The support needs of clients vary considerably such that some are ready to move on in a matter of months whereas others may require a year or more.
Improve positive outcomes for our residents
We will continue the development of our work and services to provide a high level of positive outcomes (in excess of 85%).
Establish a new (c.a 40 bed) fit for purpose hostel in North Hertfordshire
We are working with the local council, authorities and companies to develop our plans for the creation of a purpose built 40 bed hostel, allowing us to expand availability of support to those in North Hertfordshire.
Increase floating support, outreach and substance misuse teams
The focus of Haven First's work is to break the never ending cycle of homelessness.
Increase social lettings portfolio
The lack of affordable housing in the area is one of the key contributors to homelessness.
Increase the opportunities for clients securing employment when they move-on from the hostel
Over 97% of those entering the hostel are not employed. Getting clients on the path to finding a job is an important part of them having structure, focus and a sense of purpose.
Deliver and manage services and operation of the charity in a cost-effective, consistent and sustainable manner with a target to reduce our overheads
We will review our policies and procedures in the context of our Vision, Mission, Values and service delivery goals and make changes where appropriate.
